Avril Lavigne was just 17 years old when she stormed the charts worldwide in 2002 with the single Complicated and the accompanying album Let Go. With her rock sound and skater look, the young singer stood out from other artists in demand at the time, such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, and became a role model for countless young girls. Avril Lavigne was already interested in music as a child and learnt to play several instruments. After the Canadian with French roots was discovered by her future manager Cliff Fabri at one of her local gigs, she dropped out of high school and signed her first record deal. Shortly afterwards, songs such as Sk8ter Boi and I'm With You reached the top of the charts straight away. Over the years, Avril Lavigne has grown up and matured, which has had an impact on her sound - less punk, more pop.
